Glass Furnace & Refractory Series:Types of Glass Furnaces

Glass furnaces are classified as follows:
Classification by heat source:
Flame-fired furnace: Heat is generated by fuel combustion. Fuels include coal, coal gas, natural gas, heavy oil, etc. Its main structures consist of doghouse, melting tank, refining tank, channels, regenerators (heat exchangers), flues and chimneys. (According to the flame flow direction inside the furnace, flame-fired furnaces are further divided into cross-fired furnaces, end-fired furnaces and horseshoe flame furnaces.)
All-electric melting furnace: Electric power serves as the heat source.
Boosted electric furnace (flame-electric furnace): Fuel combustion is the primary heat source, with electric power used as auxiliary heat.
Oxy-fuel fired furnace: A glass furnace where oxygen with purity higher than 85% is supplied to the combustion system. The change in combustion mode brings modifications to furnace construction. Oxy-fuel furnaces eliminate regenerators, burners and reversal systems. They can effectively reduce the footprint of the melting hall and achieve more stable glass melting. We will cover this in detail in later articles.
Classification by end product:
Container & domestic glass furnace: For the production of bottles & jars, tableware glass, drawn glass tubes/rods, vacuum flask liners, laboratory glassware, pharmaceutical glass, glass tableware, electric vacuum glass, optical glass, glass fiber, water glass and other domestic glass products.
Flat glass furnace: For the production of flat glass, photovoltaic glass, patterned glass and other architectural glass.
